COVID-19 Library Services

In an effort to keep our community safe, our facilities are closed until further notice. The same friendly staff is still available to help you remotely with all your research needs Monday-Friday, 8am- 4pm and on evenings by appointment. Feel free to reach out with all your questions regarding library resources, research help, light tech help, and APA/MLA citation.

While  (ILL) inter-library loan services have not been suspended here at the library, many other libraries (and hospitals) from where we get many of our materials are either closed or very busy. Please be patient with us!

Until further notice, please hang on to any library materials currently in your possession. We've extended due dates and will be monitoring the situation before we firmly decide how to safely receive returns. We will keep you posted!

Library Mission

The mission of the White Mountains Community College library is to support the College's mission by ensuring high quality services and access to library resources for all users. To promote information literacy and lifelong learning, the library provides an environment conducive to learning, research, and study as well as providing instruction to students, faculty, and staff.

Library Policies

Borrowing Materials
Students, Faculty, & Staff at White Mountains Community College may borrow books from the library, and use the interlibrary loan service.

Community members may acquire a library card in order to borrow materials.  Fill out the Library Card Application and return to library staff.

Loan Period

Books 3 Weeks
Magazines  3 Weeks
Reference Books  Overnight
Reserve Titles Library Use Only (generally)

Materials may be renewed unless there are holds on them.

Overdue Materials
Borrowers who have not returned their materials by the due date will receive a notice from the Library. Failure to return materials in a timely manner may result in a replacement fine.  All materials must be returned and any fines paid by the end of the semester, or a hold will be placed on the student’s account resulting in delayed grades, diploma, registration, etc.

Course Reserves
Some of the books and videos which are required reading for White Mountains Community College students are placed on reserve by our faculty. Reserves generally do not circulate and must be signed out for use in the library.

Requesting Materials from other Libraries
Books, articles, and other materials that we don't own may be requested through the Fortier Library's Interlibrary Loan service. Interlibrary loan can take up to three weeks to arrive, so plan accordingly.  Articles can be requested directly from the databases.  Article citations or books not found through the databases can be requested by contacting library staff through email, phone, or in-person.

Library Instruction
Librarians are available to teach library skills on a one-to-one basis, or to classes, by appointment. An instruction session ensures that you know what electronic databases the library has to offer, as well as how to use them most efficiently for your research.

Study Areas and Conference Rooms
The Fortier Library has three separate rooms set aside for private tutoring, group study, or conferences. These rooms are equipped with computers and Internet connections, and are available to students and staff on a sign-up basis.

Computing
The library has 25 computers available for use.  The library also has wireless access to the internet and printing.  All computer or network users must abide by the CCSNH Information Technology Acceptable Use Policy.

Printing and Copying
The library has a variety of printers, including color printing.  Community members must pay for any pages printed.  A coin operated B&W copier is available for ALL library users
